She’s not a boy nor an androgynous pack mule.

Leela is a GIRL. I know Boxers, especially brindles, are sort of masculine dogs. But Leela has natural ears, a pretty, girly face, and the girliest collar we could find. People, it’s pink faux crocodile skin with brighter-pink flower charm thingees with rhinestones in the middles of the bright-pink flower charm thingees. It’s UBER girly people. (Judge for yourselves!)

I know pink isn’t only for girls. There are many men out there who can pull off pink shirts in a very masculine sort of way. But when we are talking about babies and pets who cannot speak for themselves, and who, at first glance, might be somewhat gender neutral-looking, pink is the stereotypical color that says, “I’m a GIRL.” And, did I mention the flower-charm-gem-thingees? Even masculine, pink-wearing men can only rarely (if ever?) pull this off.

So take a note: please stop asking me questions about “him” or telling me stuff about “him” or “he” when referring to Leela. I cannot even accept compliments anymore (”He is a beautiful dog.” Yes, SHE is!). Unless Dave is with me, there is no he here, so please knock it off!

Yeah, he will not be able to see very well, Cotton.

Just watched Dodge Ball again and totally cracked up. I forgot how ridiculously enjoyable it is, and how great Jason Bateman’s character is.

I’d elaborate, but the pets are having their own match up right now. For the last 15 minutes of the movie, Mojo was circling me, trying to tell me it was bedtime (i.e., dinner time for him). This caught Leela’s attention, so she’s now highly interested in him. However, rather than actually leave the room, Mojo is standing his ground, waiting patiently for me to finish this post and go upstairs. To ward off Leela’s advances, he’s keeping a persistent low growl/hiss noise going while glaring in my direction.

So, I have to run. We’ll see you next time on the “ocho.”

Sore

I’m sore from the chest press, my new shoes, and this headband in my hair. I think it’s a go-to-bed-early-so-your-muscles-can-recoup kind of a night. Leela confirmed this with a big siiiiiggghhhhhhh.

Real Inspiration

I love expressions and overused metaphors, and I especially love when people mix metaphors for hilarious results. I also love picking up new little gems to add to my collection. My favorite of late, heard yesterday: “When one door closes, another opens. It’s being in the hall that’s hell.”

Updates

I have a new job, we visited Caroline and David (and their cute kiddos) over Labor Day, and I joined a gym last week. Needless to say, stuff has been going on. I should have been posting about it while it was happening, but better late than never.

I’m still at Carnegie Mellon for my new job, managing the web site for the College of Engineering. I’m just getting my footing, but I’m excited to take this on and see what I can do with the site.

Our weekend with Caroline, David, and their girls was very fun. They all seem well, and Ellie and Helena are adorable, sweet girls. Our activities included a day trip to Charlottesville, which has a charming and dog-friendly shopping district.

I kept my promise in completing my eight weeks of pilates, and now I’ve taken it to the next level with a gym membership. So far, so good, but I’m really hoping to see some significant results in the coming months. There is quite a range of folks there, which I like. It’s motivating to see people of all ages, sizes, and fitness levels working to be healthy and fit. And I not only get in shape, but I get much-needed girl time with Laura.
