Wallace and Gromit Rock!

We thoroughly enjoyed the movie, the popcorn, the soda, the caramello, the temporary tatoos, the masks, the activity books, and the poster. We also enjoyed the new bistro next door. I also appreciated that one of the production babies was named Maeve. It’s Wallace and Gromit: what’s not to like?

Kaya

Yesterday was Laura’s birthday. Happy Birthday Laura! Despite the yucky weather we had a wonderful night at Kaya. (We also took Dan there for his birthday.) Kaya rocks. They have wonderful Hallumi cheese, but really everything is wonderful. The mood, atmosphere, noise level, lighting, it all just came together perfectly for a birthday celebration. If you haven’t been, you should go.

This past weekend, we went to the Philly area to celebrate Erin and Jason’s engagement. It was a wonderful party, and they are so very cute together! It’s always fun to catch up with them.

The weekend before we went to Homecoming at Juniata. This was a little surreal for me as I used to plan homecoming when I worked there. It was great fun to be a guest, and the weather was fabulous. I also got to see Michelle and Linda, which was a highlight of the trip. It was kind of crazy to see people we used to see all the time holding babies in their arms. How can they have babies? Seriously. I know HOW they have the babies, but how could they have babies already?

Speaking of babies, we also got to see Jen and Richard, just before Homecoming, and Jen is pregnant with their first baby. YAY!

On an unrelated side note (thanks Cindy), I ripped off half my index finger nail yesterday trying to remove gum from my shoe. I won’t get into it here, mostly because Dave will pat me on the head and remove all blunt objects from the house, but I bring it up because typing is really tricky and sometimes painful. This makes posting particularly hard, as there is no handy spell-checker to endlessly remind me that “the” is not spelled “thw.” This has been my world for two days, as I resort to typing all the index finger letters with my middle finger and creating a slew of spelling and grammatical nightmares. We all know how much I dislike grammatical nightmares, so I have to go. I’ll write more when the healing begins.

to where?

The block party was fun. We have nice neighbors who are lots of fun. We have a set of older neighbors (I’m not sure how old, but older than most of the 40 somethings with kids…). Their names are Norma and Paul. Norma is from Germany. She got drunk and made us sing Octoberfest songs (in German) in order to get shots or beer. Paul didn’t drink anything but enjoyed the entertainment thoroughly.

One of our neighbors uses the expression “to where” about as often as I say “like.” The more he drinks the more he says it, to where it all becomes one word: t’where. I picked up on it early to where I thought hmm, he sure is saying that a lot. An hour later it was t’where his wife mentioned it t’where we were all teasing him. By that point it was t’where he could barely say anything else, t’where a whole sentence was t’where after t’where after t’where…

farked

For any of you who read fark you may have seen that there are sometimes fark parties. I never pay them much mind as they are usually in different states (and not the close ones!). But Thursday night, they had a fark party, not only in Pittsburgh, but right here in Oakmont, at the Oakmont Tavern.

So what IS a fark party? Well, in a way, it’s sort of like an alumni event because you show up and meet a bunch of people you don’t know but with whom have something vague in common. It’s less organized though–no RSVP, no nametags, and no signage–until one of the farkers makes his own on the back of an advertisement for a local gym. (Really? A gym advertisement next to the menu for bar food?) The maker of said sign shall remain nameles. I give you one guess.

Anyway, we went last night (Thursday) down to the Tavern to check it out. We actually met some nice people. We shared a table with Matt and Katie for a while. They are brother and sister. She’s been living here for a while and he just moved here from Indiana Township.

Dave and Matt decided to lead us into the main part of the bar to see if anyone else showed up. We met PJ, Ken, Mike, and Angie. They were all quite nice and we chatted for a while. I had Blue Moon on draft. Blue Moon rocks on draft. Dave had Sam Adam’s Octoberfest, which also rocked. In fact, we didn’t know until last night, but the Tavern also kind of rocks. We will definitely go back. (Okay, so Dave is there NOW with a geofriend. … I guess he was pretty impressed.)

That was the first adventure of the weekend. Tomorrow is the Block Party for our street in which we will meet (hopefully) some of the neighbors we haven’t yet, and also see the ones we have. I made my grandmother’s blondies (a sure way to make friends) and some pumpkin bread with icing in the middle. The pumpkin bread did not go according to plan on many levels. Let’s just leave it at that–and stick with the blondies next time.
