Grocery Wars

Dave’s friend Tony recently posted the following entry on his blog: “In honor of the final installment of the Star Wars franchise opening today I offer the following short film, Grocery Wars!” I had to share it. Enjoy!

The Cioccos

Ben and Gretchen tied the knot this weekend in a really fun and lovely wedding. The ceremony was very cool and unique. Any ceremony that involved the pianist playing “Journey” and readings such as Adam Sandler’s “I want to grow old with you,” is truly special. I love it when couples are willing to really show who they are. The reception was also great fun, and it was great to see old friends and meet some new people. For their first dance as a married couple, Ben and Gretchen put on a great show, complete with Ben flipping Gretchen all the way over! Impressive.

My sister, brother-in-law, and niece and nephew arrive on Wednesday, so things are busy around our house. The mad dash to complete the bathroom (and by complete I mean get the sink and toilet working) and get everything else in order is on. I will put up pictures of Dave’s handy work when it is done as he has done a really great job on this project.

email subject lines

So when I was in my master’s program, we learned about the importance of informative and useful subject lines of emails. So Tara and Erin and I try hard to write useful, and when possible, funny subject lines.

About 6 months before I had a blog, I wanted one. So I started tucking away funny little tidbits I would put on it. One of them was a list of great subject lines. I believe it is now time to share these gems.

tigger’s sick in the head
chocolate waffles
I fought the law…
the mix has landed
handy reference / my sanity
aright aright aright aright !!!!!
the power of lime
goddess of desperation
darkness dinner
Thou be Stupid
commas kill
welcome to iceland

1000 Steps

This weekend Dave and I took Laura and Bill on an adventure to Huntindon and Defiance. We explored the Juniata campus showed them where we used to live and go to school. We also make a surprise visit to Simon and Michelle, and as a bonus, Simon’s parents were there! They have officially moved here from England. Emma is SO cute and has learned to make the best frowny face to show her displeasure at certain things. She loves her ball and was very sweet to share.

After Huntingdon, we went down for an hour drive through broadtop country. It was a beautiful day for it. Back at Dave’s parents’ we had a great meal and hung out till we all crashed. Sunday was going to be the big climb up 1000 Steps.

1000 steps is actually 1036 stone steps up the side of a mountain. There used to be a rock quarry at the top, and the workers built the steps into the mountain to make their climb up it every day. It was great! We all enjoyed this climb and this cache, although I was reminded of how pathetic my lung capacity is. My legs were holding up great, but my heart and lungs are what slowed me down. the views at the top were really beautiful. You can read more about the cache itself and see some fun pictures at Dave’s post.

Dun Dun Dun…

So there is a pizza commercial on t.v. these days in which a storm trooper from Star Wars is in a pizza kitchen and blasts the pizzas in the oven to a fiery oblivion. The manager of the store tells him something along the lines of “I told you no more blasting.” The storm trooper takes one more shot at the over and, well, storms out.

Dave and I just saw this commercial, and his immediate reaction was, “It would be AWESOME to have a storm trooper outfit. I would walk around in that thing all the time. We’d be walking down the street to get ice cream, and I would have it on. And you would wear a cape–you’d wear your regular clothes, but with a cape. And you’d have to carry around a boom box that plays Dun Dun Dun, Dun-dun-dun, Dun-dun-dun (i.e, the Imperial March).”

Um…yeah. I don’t think that will be happening soon. I’ve never been able to find a cape that was flattering.

P.S. Why is fiery spelled “fiery” and not “firey”? Seriously you don’t put out a fier. This is just a confusing trick to frustrate those of us who are bad spellers….it’s mean!
