Maia Perks Up

Well, Maia seems to be doing better, back to her playful self, eating, drinking, snuggling, etc. To celebrate, I want to share this funny email my mother-in-law sent.

A cat died and went to Heaven. God met her at the gates and said, “You have been a good cat all these years. Anything you want is yours for the asking.”

The cat thought for a mnute and then said, “All my life I lived on a farm and slept on hard wooden floors. I would like a real fluffy pillow to sleep on.”

God said, “Say no more.” Instantly the cat had a huge fluffy pillow.

A few days later, six mice were killed in an accident and they all went to Heaven together. God met the mice at the gates with the same offer that He made to the cat.

The mice said, “Well, we have had to run all of our lives: from cats, dogs and even people with brooms! If we could just have some little roller skates, we would not have to run again.”

God answered, “It is done.” All the mice had beautiful little roller skates.

About a week later, God decided to check on the cat. He found her sound asleep on her fluffly pillow. God gently awakened the cat and asked, “Is everything okay? How have you been doing? Are you happy?”

The cat replied, “Oh, it is WONDERFUL. I have never been so happy in my life. The pillow is so fluffy, and those little Meals on Wheels you have been sending over are delicious!”

Maia Kitty

Poor little Maia is sick. We are not totally sure what is wrong with her, but we do know that she has kidney trouble. Right now she is just not herself, although she did seem to enjoy being an only kitty at the Deckers’ this weekend. She sure does like Dave’s dad, and always has.

Right now she is possibly sore from an incident with the wall. Any of you who have met Maia know she is a bit skiddish. As typical of her, she bolted out of the kitchen last week over some noise. Unfortunately, she slipped on the kitchen floor into the corner of the pantry.

So we took her to the vet, and they did x-rays, urine test, and blood work. We haven’t heard back on everything yet, but she definitely has a kidney infection. So this mean that her pain in her back could be either from the infection or from the slip. Either way we have to put her on new food and give her medicine for the infection.

Keep you fingers crossed as we don’t yet know how this is going to play out. We are hoping that she is back to her old (if not fancy) self within a couple of days.

Just for fun, here’s a picture of her as a kitten.

Nolan Ryan

This weekend was full of spontaneity and fun. Friday night at the last minute, we were able to go out with Lawrie and Neil, who we don’t see nearly enough for how close Blairsville and Pittsburgh are. We tried a little Italian place in Monroeville, and it was great to catch up and hear all about the plans for their upcoming wedding!

Saturday was a beautiful sunny day, so Dave and I took a two-hour walk around Oakmont, poking in the stores on “the ARB” and finishing up at the library. Then we got ready, made dessert for later that evening and left for Bill and Laura’s on good old Frank Street. We had to make a stop on the way to get more of Timmy’s cast offs. It was fun to meet TImmy’s old roommate Mike and his sweet cat Jay.

Laura made wonderful corned beef and cabbage in honor of St. Patty’s Day, and we played Trivial Pursuit. Laura and I were winning for most of the game but got stuck on the stupid Sports and Leisure questions, in which we got an unreasonable amount of baseball questions. In the end the boys narrowly beat us.

Sunday morning started too early with the irritating scratching and crying of one Mojo who thought it was about time we got up. Spoiled cat. But then we had breakfast with Kristan at Crepes! So great to see Kristan. I love that her family is from Latrobe, because we don’t get to LA nearly enough. We miss you again already Kristan!!

The rest of Sunday consisted of various errands and chores until we settled in to watch The House of Sand and Fog (from the library!). So, busy and fast, the weekend is gone again. But today is the first day of spring, so we got that going for us, which is nice…

Update for St. Patty’s Day

So, you may or may not remember a post I made about a Celtic pendant recently, which you can find here. I got this comment from the owner of the site/store:

“A Chairde,
I’m the owner of the site/store, biddy Murphy Celtic gifts, where you saw the ‘unusual’ pendant. It’s actually an ancient Celtic fertility symbol found carved for instance into an archway at Kilkea Castle count Kildare amongst other places in Ireland. It’s a popular item with people in the OBGYN field amongst others. Thanks for visiting my site.
Ward”

I thought that was pretty cool that Ward commented to help clarify things. So, in the spirit of St. Patrick’s day, I thought I’d re-post about the site. Check it out. They have a lot of cool stuff, and you’ll need to be decked out for tomorrow.
