new blogs, oakmont bakery, and south park

Whew, what a weekend. It has gone by fast. How is it Sunday evening already? And for that matter, how is it almost Thanksgiving? Geh!

Anyhoo, there are new blogs to distract you from all sorts of things you should be doing. Visit the swisherhive for more good stories.

While the soon-to-be-swisher duo has been blogging, the Deckers have been busy. Dave and I went to see The Incredibles with Ben, Gretchen, Steve, and Christa. See it. We all LOVED it. :) Also, it will help you understand why Dave always yells at me: “You tell me where my suit is woman!” even though he wears jeans and a t-shirt most of the time.

In addition, the rest of the immediate Decker family was visiting this weekend. We went to Light Up Night in Oakmont, and it was quite nice. It included great weather, decorations, $1 ice cream cones, and finally visiting shops in Oakmont I’ve been meaning to explore. It wore us all out. (Mojey is STILL sleeping on the blue sofa. He looks especially tired because he had to do a lot of extra entertaining…) I believe Dave will be blogging a funny story for you about that.

And just to jump on the bandwagon, here is my SouthPark alter ego.

Yoga Kisses

If only I could be so dedicated to writing in my blog as Cindy is! I read hers every day because there is always something new. I think many of us with blogs get worried that what we have to say isn’t worthy of being blogged. Maybe that’s true, but since it is one way for us to keep in touch, I think I will take a lesson from Cindy. When I read her snipets and stories, I feel like I am sharing those moments in her day, and that maybe she really isn’t so far away.

So, that said, I will share a couple of highlights from today related to yoga. I haven’t been to a yoga class in more than two years, and I do miss it. I had a great teacher in State College, but that’s no reason not to try to find one here. So Laura and I decided we would try a class, and somehow Bill and Dave agreed to join. Dave’s words were: “I’ll try anything once.”

Dave mentioned it this morning and reminded me that we were going to start yoga tonight. I asked if he was excited. He said no because he was going to fart. For some reason whenever anyone mentions yoga, Dave always thinks of (and usually mentions) the idea that someone will let one rip right in the middle of downward dog. I related this story to Laura, who shared that her dad calls farts “yoga kisses.” I find this to be hilarious.

So we went, and it was good. Laura and I didn’t like it as much as other practices we’ve had, but it’s still good to get moving. I don’t think anybody farted, and we didn’t do the downward dog. Dave has a lot of soreness. I expect mine will start tomorrow. I also expect that there is a funny blog on this soon to be posted on Dave’s blog, so stay tuned. If you know anything about Dave, it will be a very dramatic retelling of that 75 minutes.

Other minutia of non-interest: Lulu’s on Craig street has new decor outside; the hideous naked people billboard has been taken down from my morning commute; unfortunately said billboard has been replaced with an ad for Rush Limbaugh; also unfortunately, said hideous billboard is now even larger and more obnoxiously posted on my evening commute; Fark, Slashdot, and Google News have helped me be better informed; and Maia likes chicken and french fries and has taken to assertively begging for any people food in case it is one of those two items.

Namaste.

I Heart Huckabees

This is the first weekend in a LONG time that Dave and I have had a whole weekend when nether of us had to travel and we had no pre-scheduled plans. Oh man, the freedom! We had a great weekend in which we both got some stuff done and had some relaxing fun!

I won’t bore anyone with all the details, but the weather was perfect for both raking leaves and a Steelers victory. We also discovered two great items you might want to add to your viewing agenda: LOST and I Heart Huckabees.

LOST is on Saturday nights on ABC, and we found its movie-like qualities, interesting storyline/character development, and cast worth tuning in for both episodes that aired back to back.

I can’t give you any useful description of I Heart Huckabees other than I really enjoyed it! The cast is tremendous, and the characters are fascinating. I didn’t have any expectations going in, and that worked really well - I just went along for the ride.

I’d be curious to hear any feedback on Ray and The Incredibles (no spoilers please!), as I’m eager to see both of those too.

Halloween Treats

Well I write this blog as the trick-or-treaters get ready to wander around the neighborhood. It’s so nice out that I hope there is a big turn out. We already had one crew of four.

The first one told me he liked the giant Homer in our front yard. Then Dave came out, and one of the other ones said to him: “Hey dawg, what’s up?” Um, right. Turns out he’s one of the neighborhood boys Dave was riding with when he had “the accident.”

Meanwhile, Mojey is sitting at the front door and crying while he stares at the bubble machine Dave hooked up on the front porch. Good Halloween effects (both the bubbles and the crying cat).

So we had a little celebratory shindig for: Halloween, a belated housewarming, and Ben and Gretchen’s engagement. Good times. People had some excellent, and often hilarious, costumes. We had fun with ours, for sure.

Boo.
